A southern boy at heart, Stu James grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated with a B.A. degree in Banking and Finance from Morehouse College. Stu currently lives in Los Angeles. But if he's ever feeling homesick, you can catch him having a good southern meal and enjoying his mama's, Ms. Shirley's butter whipped pound cake! His love for the arts came early in his childhood while sitting on his pops lap headed to kindergarten. They would sing Three Dogs Night. "Joy To The World" and grab ice cream on their way home. As a teenager, Stu sang in the Atlanta Boy Choir and was a soloist in school programs at B. E. Mays High. He's been singing ever since!
Stu James starred in and originated the role of John Dolphin in the hit new musical, Recorded in Hollywood, at Kirk Douglas Theatre in Los Angeles. He received several Best Leading Actor Awards for his performance in this role such as :
The Broadway World Award-LA, Critics Choice Award, LA Scenie Award, Eddon Award and Ovation Award Nom(Best Ensemble).
Currently, he's recurring as Asst. Principal D. Ditman on the new series Mr. Student Body President. You can catch him on Season 2, which starts in September on G090, a Ron Howard and Brian Grazer's New Form Digital Production series.
Stu is also a Broadway actor who's lived in New York City for 5 years. There he's starred as Harpo in Oprah Winfrey's The Color Purple, 1st Natl Tour (NAACP Theatre Award Nom. & Black Theatre Alliance Nom) and the rock musical RENT as Benny on Broadway. Off-Broadway/Regional: Smokey Joe's Cafe as Adrian. Pasadena Playhouse: Hoodoo Love as Ace. San Diego's Mo'olelo Performing Arts Theatre (Craig Noel Award Nom., San Diego Critics Circle), Barnstormer Workshop, plus much more.

Giving back is a big part of Stu's life. He likes to give back to the Teen Lead After School Program at Ketchum-Downtown YMCA, The Pet Foundation and his alma mater, Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia.
